Emma B Designs was the perfect name to give tribute to my grandmother, Emma Boeshe, and bring her presence back into our lives in a thoughtful, purposeful way. Emma was responsible for teaching my mother how to sew, who in turn taught me how to sew. Sewing is definitely one of those skills you don't appreciate until someone appreciates it for you. It was not until 35 years later that I began to appreciate what my grandmother (and mother) did for me in keeping the sewing tradition alive in our family. I would have never thought that a simple activity I took for granted as a teenager would become a livelihood for me so many years later.
Another reason I want to honor my grandmother with this website is that because of her I have very strong memories of sewing together with my mother. Sewing brought us together while I was growing up and I know how difficult that is for a mother and daughter. Today, my daughter Emily and I are recreating the same memories as we spend time together picking out fabrics, designing handbags and creating fun accessories together for emmab Designs. I feel confident that someday Emily will appreciate her unique sewing talents and look back with fondness on the times we spent together.
